TENANTS' COMPLAINTS ABOUT GARBAGE SMELL

It is important that each tenant take responsibility to dispose of garbage in responsible ways.  Our buildings are clean of rodents, roaches and bedbugs.  To maintain this higher quality of cleanliness, the DVTA is calling all tenants to uphold their responsibility for proper garbage disposal.

Getting residents on board by including educational, seasonal pest prevention tips in newsletters and e-blasts or by posting bulletins with your property’s pest sighting protocol so they know their role in pest management. Many pest management providers will also provide a complimentary, on-site staff training session upon request. These can be as specific as needed to be effective for your property.

  • meat packages & liners:  most meat packages are styrofoam and not recyclable.  The liner has plastic and not recyclable.
    1. Rinse all packaging throughly before putting into your garbage bag.
    2. Rinse the liner to remove meat juices before disposing.
  • cans:
    1. Remove paper wrap for recycling
    2. Rinse cans to remove all contents

What smells keep roaches away?

If you want to repel some roaches, a little peppermint oil is surprisingly effective. A mix of peppermint oil and white vinegar is a solid go-to for repelling several pests, especially spiders. ... You can also use straight peppermint oil to wipe down countertops. Not only will it keep pests away, it'll smell nice too.

Prevention is key

With any of these pests, eliminating an infestation can be a serious challenge. Now is the time to check in on your pest management program before pest populations are in full swing. The best way to help prevent pest issues is to work with your pest management professional to make sure you, your staff and your residents are prepared.

Are you doing your best to produce 'clean' garbage and prevent pest infestation and stop garbage oders?
